The “El Camino de Santiago” or “Way of St. James” is a pilgrimage to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela where the relics of St. James the Greater rest. Catholics began walking the Camino in the 10th century, and the tradition continues today.
The Camino pilgrimage had a resurgence in popularity in the 19th and 20th centuries. There is not single route to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. However, the most popular is the “French Way” or Camino Frances.
